The cheetah is a wild cat which inhabits in Africa and Middle East. Even though at first sight it seems to be similar to the leopard, because of the color and spots in its fur, and similar to all the other "members" of the Wild Cats family, the chhetah has its own species. Among all other caracteristics of this animal, the one that everybody thinks at first is the fastness of this feline. It reaches the 110 Km/h, but it can not keep up with this for too long.
This wild cat is 1.2 - 1.5 meters long and 80 centimeters high. It weighs between 40 - 65 Kg. In proportion to the rest of its body, the cheetah has longer legs than the other wild cats. This animal has an special ligament so it can retract its claws. Its head is small in comparation to its body, big eyes, small ears and short muzzle.
This animal inhabits in regions of open spaces where there are very few trees. The females live alone with the babies and generaly the males in groups of two or three. They usually hunt in cold days. It is a lonely creature except when it is a female that is take care of its babies.
The principal reason of its extinction are humans. There is people hunting them every day. Nowadays there are just around 300 wild cheetahs left. If only we could make people realise, we could stop the extinction of, in my opinion, the most beautiful terrestrian animal on earth.
